After traveling through the deserted planes of Mongolia, two friends found themselves on the Trans-Siberian Railway heading West back towards their home. While living aboard the shaking and rusty train for five days, they realized that they were not ready to go back to everyday life with studying and 9 to 5 workdays. 
6 Months later, they climbed onboard Sofie, the Norwegian built steel sailboat and the dream of exploring the Arctic came to life. They started looking towards Greenland, the massive and isolated mountain ranges across the ocean in the West.

Albert and Sondre quickly realized that they could not afford and lacked the experience to set sail toward the desolated and frozen fjords of Greenland, and agreed to sail and experience the hidden wonders of Norway to begin with. Since they made the same mistake as every single first-time-boat-owner of buying a boat too big, they started inviting friends and family to join them on the expeditions towards the North. Albert had the passion of photography, while Sondre dived deep into the moviemaking world, they needed an experienced sailor that had fallen in love with navigating. It did not take them long to find Stian, a like-minded soul that wanted to sit behind the rudder and be the Captain.  

For 5 years, Ægir grew into a community of adventurous people that explored the Arctic. They Sailed everywhere to the frozen world of Svalbard, explored the depths of the astonishing glacier melted waters of Iceland and climbed the massive, unnamed mountains of Greenland.

When the pandemic broke out, they quickly decided that this was the perfect opportunity to put sailing and exploring aside, and start focussing on life and relations closer to home. Sofie was sold and for two years, Ægir Expeditions was put in hibernation. 

Welcome back to the new rise of Ægir Expeditions and its community. With the new boat Popeye we will once more set sail towards the wonders hidden in the Arctic. But instead of dreaming of sailing back to the majestic fjords of Greenland, Ægir Expeditions is now dreaming about circumnavigating the world.
